Safety Guidelines
Important: Adult supervision is required for all experiments. Please read these safety guidelines before starting any experiment.
General Safety Rules
- Adult Supervision: All experiments require adult supervision, especially for younger children.
- Read First: Read the entire experiment guide before starting, including materials and safety warnings.
- Workspace: Work in a clean, well-ventilated area with good lighting.
- Clothing: Wear old clothes or a lab coat. Tie back long hair.
- Safety Gear: Wear safety goggles, gloves, or other protective equipment when indicated.
- Clean Up: Wash hands thoroughly after completing experiments.
Working with Chemicals
- Never taste or smell chemicals unless specifically instructed.
- Label all containers clearly.
- Dispose of chemicals properly according to local regulations.
- Keep chemicals away from food and drinks.
Heat and Fire Safety
- Only adults should handle heat sources and open flames.
- Keep flammable materials away from heat sources.
- Have a fire extinguisher nearby when working with fire.
- Never leave heat sources unattended.
Age-Specific Guidelines
- Ages 3-5: Direct supervision at all times. Use only non-toxic, food-safe materials.
- Ages 5-8: Close supervision. Avoid sharp objects and hot materials.
- Ages 8-11: Supervision nearby. May handle some tools with guidance.
- Ages 11+: Can work more independently but still need adult oversight.
Emergency Procedures
- Know where the first aid kit is located.
- In case of chemical contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with water.
- In case of ingestion, call poison control immediately.
- In case of fire, use appropriate fire extinguisher and call 911 if needed.
